Grid System as Backbone of Every Good Design. Part 1 Reading response

On the post that Vera Fesinnava posted she states the various ways and grid systems that zines interior design bases off of.

She  introduces the meaning of the modular grid: a basis for all areas of graphic design but is especially important in editorial design.

At first this grid was separated from page edges with margins and divided with guides on 3 columns. Between the columns a gutter of 5 mm was provided. A very simple layout that gave some guide and to the editors choosing for the interior.

Then in 1998 there was an editor that came up with the idea to create a 12 collum grid. The layout then became more flexible for more information to be placed.

I think this related to my progress when doing my inteiror magazine is that I can look up ways that grids are used for comics and if they use the 3 column or 12 column grid to orginize everything.

This also makes me look at everything differently. Menus on a Mcdonalds sign, magazines, newspapers, even the design of the google home screen as an element of grids incorporated.
