Reading Rsponse: Why Typography Matters — Especially At The Oscars

This article's focal point was how typography can have a significant impact when not done right. Summarized: Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway came out to present Best Picture, but were given the wrong envelope for Best Actress, instead. the words on the card for Best Actress (Emma Stone: "La La Land") gave them both a hard time on saying the correct winner (Moon Knight). Instead, Dunaway blurted out La La Land and it made television history.

This could've been corrected with just more knowledge about typography. Instead, the Oscars being at the top which is poor on the visual hierarchy, reading top to bottom, it should've barely been there or even the logo was to be somewhere else that doesn't distract the reader. As we all know it's the Oscars.

Emma stones name should've been much larger than being the same text as the movie name. There is also the suggestion that Best Actress should be at the top so that it is easier to understand and read the words.

In all, I say they need to hire Benjamin Bannister as the card writer for the Oscars.
